I am an old guy that came to this type of photography from a snapshot mentality. I noticed that I was not getting very many 'good' pictures for the number I was taking. The more I looked first, and the more pains I took before shooting, the more productive I became. My current philosophy is that there is a 'best' picture of any scene and to try to capture it first.
